Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) are built on legacy enterprise database backends designed in the early 2000s. Many of these database tables are configured to store text in standard 8-bit Latin-1 or basic UTF-8 with strict input filters.

When the ATS parser ingests mathematical bold letters like 𝐒 (U+1D412):

1. Fallback Question Marks: If the backend character collation cannot map the 4-byte surrogate pair, it replaces every character with a question mark: ?????? ????-????? ????????.
2. Silent Ingestion Drop: The parser classifies the input as non-text binary data and completely drops the section from the candidate's searchable skill profile.
